Unfortunately, while technically much of Evanston’s data is “open” (available on the internet, for instance), like many small municipalities most of the data really isn’t open. That is, it’s not in a format where regular citizens can use the data, check the data, analyze the data, and learn about their city.
Thanks to efforts intended to help publish Evanston data in more usable formats, there is some data available to citizens through the City’s open data portal. It’s a start.
Data drives decision-making. Decision-making has effects on real people in a real place over time. And that decision-making has ripple effects on citizens in real communities. A real community like the City of Evanston.
